A Photoshoot With a Secret
Zachary planned his proposal to Hannah around what looked like a simple couple photoshoot in Imerovigli, Santorini. The idea was deliberately understated: no signs, no elaborate setup and nothing that could reveal what was about to happen. He wanted the proposal to feel completely unexpected while still being professionally captured in one of Santorini’s most cinematic locations.
From the beginning, Zachary had a clear visual direction in mind. He wanted their Santorini proposal photos and video to feel dramatic and almost like a scene from a movie, with the white architecture, blue domes, narrow stairways and Caldera views of Imerovigli becoming part of the story.
A Surprise Proposal in Imerovigli
The proposal was planned for the beginning of their sunset session so that the rest of the hour could naturally become an engagement photoshoot. Once Hannah said yes, the surprise turned into a relaxed walk through Imerovigli, giving us time to capture both the immediate emotion of the proposal and their first portraits together as an engaged couple.
Imerovigli is one of the most beautiful locations for a Santorini proposal photoshoot. Its elevated position above the Caldera, traditional Cycladic architecture and quieter pathways create a combination of dramatic scenery and intimate spaces that works especially well for surprise proposals and engagement sessions.
For Zachary and Hannah, the location was particularly important. Zachary had specifically chosen the blue domes, white stairways and panoramic backgrounds he had seen in previous Santorini sessions, allowing us to build the route around the visual style he wanted while keeping the proposal itself completely natural.
Santorini Proposal Videography
A surprise proposal is one of the moments where professional video adds something photography alone cannot fully preserve. For this session, a separate Santorini proposal videographer captured the moment together with live sound, allowing Zachary and Hannah to keep not only the images of the proposal but also the words, reactions and atmosphere of the moment itself.
Our approach to proposal videography in Santorini is discreet and carefully planned. Audio can be recorded with a hidden microphone, while the videographer stays positioned far enough away not to reveal the surprise. Drone footage, when the location and conditions allow it, is filmed after the proposal rather than during the moment itself so that the sound of the drone never interrupts the experience.
Zachary and Hannah’s Imerovigli proposal became exactly what had been planned: a candid surprise followed by a cinematic engagement session at sunset, combining professional photography and videography with one of the most recognizable landscapes in Santorini.
Zachary & Hannah’s Santorini Proposal Film
Filmed in Imerovigli during golden hour and sunset, their proposal film follows the moment from anticipation and surprise into the first minutes of their engagement. The combination of natural sound, cinematic camera coverage and the Santorini landscape allows the experience to be remembered as more than a single photograph.
The film was created to Lana Del Rey’s Say Yes to Heaven, a fitting soundtrack for a story that began as a secret photoshoot and ended with an engagement above the Caldera.
